Competitions- 2nd Hull & East Yorkshire Open
The Woodford Karate Club took place in the 2nd Hull & East Yorkshire Open Karate Championships on the 31st October, at the Ennerdale Leisure Centre in Hull. Our own Wado UK group hosted the event and a total 17 Woodford Students took part. This group of competitors won a total of 17 medals for the Woodford club.
The day started as usual with the Kata categories and within these groups we had 11 entrants.
These categories would provide our first four medals of the day, the best of which would be individual gold's for Charlotte Pinder and Amber Oetegenn. The girls put their names down for everything they could and this was to get them and Woodford Karate Club off to a flying start. Ragen Allitt would add a bronze medal to the individual tally, with the boys team of Harry Oetegenn, Joe Munro and Joe Rose adding a team bronze in this category.
The Kick-Master events were nestled nicely into the middle of the Kumite categories. They started as soon as the 10 year and below competitors had finished all their Kumite categories. These divisions would mean more medals for the Woodford club too. Teerth Dhesi would secure the best of these with a well deserved silver in his age group, with sister Charan, Oliver Dearing, Amber Oetegenn and Bethany Holmes taking bronze medals in their respective categories too.
For the Kumite categories we had a mixture of individuals and teams. And both sections would provide more medals. With the younger members fighting first, they all had the chance to add medals to their earlier successes. Four of the group did exactly that with Charlotte adding silver and Joe Munro, Oliver and Bethany all adding another bronze each.

Woodford had two successful teams in the junior categories, with Ragen Allitt, Teerth Dhesi and Tanvier Sing Basi being the 9 yrs and under team and Thomas Balaam-Reed, Eylul Zorba and Joe Rose as a 10-11yrs boys team. The former would fair the best, by winning a silver after three rounds of competition. The second group also tasting success though, with a creditable bronze to add to Woodford's total for the day.
The seniors were to add individual honors of their own too, with Barry Meanwell and Dean Fenton won gold and bronze respectively. The duo then teamed up with Chris Fenton for the senior men's team event. This was to be a category with a lot of experience in the draw and they would have to be on fine form to beat their opponents. After three hard fought matches they swept all aside and stood aloft on the podium with their gold medals and team trophy for all to see.

Many parents and family members of those who took part helped out over the course of the weekend and we would like to thank each and every one who did. Without this assistance the day would not have been possible. Thank you to everyone whatever you did!
