English Karate Federation National Championships 2011

Over the weekend of April 16th & 17th, the EKF held their National Championships at the Ponds Forge International Sports centre in Sheffield. The Woodford Dojo had three competitors at the event and the trio had secured two Bronze medals by the end of the competition.

Our medal winning duo were two of only three local individual medallist’s at the event. Harry Oetegenn 14 matched senior captain Barry Meanwell in securing individual bronze medals at the competition.

The Ponds Forge International Sports Centre in Sheffield was the venue for the championships and they took place over the weekend of 16th & 17th April. This venue has been used for several years now and offers an arena of six areas, essential for the volume of competitors taking part.

The first medal for the pair went to Harry in the Cadet Male Kumite event. This was the second time he has won a podium finish at this National event and shows his consistency in preparation and development.

Barry was competing in the senior male categories and in part it was continued preparation for flying off to Zurich for the European Senior Championships. Barry fought through the rounds and managed to secure the second of the bronze medals for themselves and the Woodford Dojo.

This was a great performance for the Hull pair at such a prestigious event. It also helped put Hull on the National Karate Map.

Other Woodford competitors at the championships were;
Joe Munro and Chris Fenton.
